hacksaw blitz: a retrospective

So, following the last post on Sunday, we managed to valliantly complete the first typeset draft of issue two. From there we each printed a copy, grabbed our red pens, and went to the pub for breakfast/proofreading (In our defense, their breakfast omelette bar is amazing.) Everything's been proofed, more or less, and we are on our way. Within days we should be at the printers, then back to the paintin', staplin', and glue-sniffin'!

Good Morning, Good Morning -- To You!

A mere six hours later: we're awake, but not actually with it. A fresh pot of coffee is percolating at this very moment, everyone's checked their email/updated their facebook status, and we are ready to wrap this thing up.

we quit

we have officially called it quits for the night. it is 4 am. that is all.

i dunno how long it's been but it's almost three-thirty in the morning

We've just finished with The Cure (which actually cured nothing), and are now onto The Clash (Give 'Em Enough Rope). Along with the third cup of coffee I've just poured, this should alleviate my pains. God, I'm getting old. My back feels like an arthritic old lady shoehorned into a trans-Atlantic economy class airbus. We've been bent over the coffee table for God-knows-how-many hours, typing, correcting, snipping, glueing, sniffing, editing.... argh. Taryn is proofreading the last long prose piece before we lay it out like Thanksgiving dinner. We are so close. SO close. I can smell the finish line. I love the smell of victory at 3.30 in the morning. It smells like... napalm.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean that. That was the glue/coffee/stress talking. Can we please be friends again?

death to leading and anyone who notices

I (Ashleigh) hate kerning. So we've decided to standardize our kerns for each piece. After I notice that I've been letting everything on my InDesign go on AUTO. Urgh. If anyone says anything, I will kill you. I mean it.

The... fourth? fifth? ... sixth? hour

The Raw Power of Iggy and the Stooges, combined with a full assault of extra-strong coffee, has given us a second wind as we bravely venture forth along this increasingly rugged terrain. The sleeping cats have long since abandoned us, but we have managed to check a few important items off the multi-page To-Do list. We have now moved onto The Replacements, which goes nicely with the fumes of the Crayola glue sticks. (I really don't think making them smell like berries is any deterrent from glue sniffin' youngsters. Shameful, really.) When the sun comes up, we'll still be at it. More updates to come. If we remember.

Hour Two....or Three

Well, we are six pages down, two drinks down and onto the second disc of the fantastic Ramones anthology.

Life is pretty good.

Next musician: Iggy and the Stooges. It's getting late and we need some raw power!

It's fun laying out the pages but it's hard not to just stop and read all the different stories and poetry the next issue will have. I think our readers will like what they see.

It's, It's the Hacksaw Blitz

Hour One:
The first glasses of wine have been poured, The Smiths are skipping round the stereo, and we have begun our marathon assault in the second issue. With dual iBooks open, we are poised on the shores of a new continent, ready to start editing and creating. The floor is covered with a random assortment of arts-n-crafts paraphernalia: crayons, sketchbooks, cut-up magazines, scissors, and sleeping cats. We shall overcome. We shall be victorious. We will keep you updated as the evening progresses. Stay tuned.
